Climb Indian Bluffs

Indian Bluffs Wildlife AreaScotch Grove, IA

Description

Indian Bluffs is one of the most rugged and beautiful natural spaces in Iowa. There are about 30 or so good routes here. The area offers respite from the busier Pictured Rocks, and offers typically taller and harder climbs. Long hikes to get to the climbs, but there is also primitive tent camping next to the Maquoketa River along the beach! This camping is first come first serve, and there is a prohibition on site disturbance and/or alteration.

NOTICE: There is currently a temporary closure for the north end of Indian Bluffs. Check closures here (http://www.iowadnr.gov/Places-to-Go/State-Parks-Rec-Areas/Closure-Information). This extends from Chimney Rock all the way to the Wedding Bells area. This is pending further study of the ecosystem, and the compatible use evaluation. In general, they are worried about algific sites - sites at NE-facing rock faces that have cooler air in summer and tend to host unique plant/animal species. Please respect this temporary closer; this is only affecting a few routes.
