The Cable Car features the iconic Fenelon Place Elevator, but is also home to many unique shops. From ice cream to fair trade goods, and from women’s clothing to brewing supplies. There is something for everyone in this historic district of downtown Dubuque.
The Tri-State’s Largest Chili Cook-Off is hosted at the Cable Car Square and takes place the first Saturday in October. The cook-off transforms Dubuque’s historic Cable Care Square on Bluff Street in Dubuque into an aromatic chili tasting competition. Featuring live music, beer, kids’ games, food and other entertainment, the chili cooks looking to compete in the competition can do so in a variety of divisions. The Chili Association Society International competition follows a strict set of rules which delineates what ingredients are necessary and which are prohibited. The association also provides guidelines for tasting and judging. Sampling is as easy as buying a sampling spoon, but don’t forget the beverages! Some of the offerings are on fire.
